Japan Needs Four Times More Foreign Workers by 2040

In case you’re looking to leave the Philippines ASAP, you may want to set your sights on job postings in Japan. The country’s justice ministry official already announced in November 2021 that they’re allowing foreigners in certain blue-collar jobs to stay in the country indefinitely starting 2022. On top of this, a group of Tokyo-based public think tanks said on February 3 that the Asian country needs to quadruple its population of foreign workers by 2040 if it wants to maintain its growth.

Their government has always been hesistant about easing Japan immigration polices, but labor shortage and the dwindling population is pushing the country to look elsewhere for their workforce. The country’s population has been in decline since 2008.

The group—which includes the research arm of the Japan International Cooperation Agency—said that Japan needs to have 6.74 million foreign workers by 2040
