Millennials are digital natives, born and raised in the world wide web, hence, social media. Having been able to retweet, tag, and comment on companies that have been advertising, they are used to casual and essential personal relationships. This mindset carries over to the companies and employers they engage with, thus using platforms such as Facebook and Twitter to connect with them is significant.

It is beneficial to learn what time of the day is best to post and how to alter job adverts to suit different platforms. As social media gets increasingly integrated into everyone’s daily lives, this trend will only continue to rise.

Reapplying Traditional Methods in the Screening Process

Even with technology becoming more prevalent in the hiring process, sifting through the pool of candidates cannot be done just digitally.  There will be individuals shining with accolades and achievements listed in their resumes sent online. Even if their references back them up, this is not enough to know if the person fits well with the company.

Traditional screening processes have been time tested and are utilized for a reason. Personal interviews allow recruiters to assess candidates facetoface. This gives them a better impression of what the person is like. Skill examinations and aptitude tests help determine if the candidate is capable of the position’s tasks.Testing for drugs is also another screening method that can be done to check the individual’s history of substance abuse. As technology develops, so do traditional methods. Nowadays, it is easier to obtain the necessary materials for competency exams and get a hold of in-house drug test kits such as a THC test kit as these services had to be outsourced from outside professionals.

Prioritization of Developing Employees

Instead of constantly reviewing employees about their engagement and happiness in the company, developing their skills and discussing their growth opportunities should be the priority. A couple years ago, HR departments thought perks like gaming stations, free gourmet coffee, and gym memberships would attract the best young talent – it turned out that this wasn’t the case. Millennials want to work in an organization where they can grow as professionals and can be coached by their superiors.

Encouraging a candidate’s development in the recruiting process allows them to reflect on their future. Knowing that they can develop the skills to pursue their career goals is a key element for them to stay with a company.

Staying on top of HR industry trends is a move that will take an organization forward. If it does not adapt, the potential of acquiring better employees will also diminish. Utilizing these trends will improve the likelihood of obtaining the best talent for the company. Being passive will only let competitors have more skilled employees in their arsenal. Know what it is your company lacks and act on it. In the long run, it will benefit both the employee and the company itself.
