Leadership Lessons from Mother Teresa
“ Do not go where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail………”
And that is exactly what Mother Teresa did. In this article today I am sharing my views on leadership taking a few examples from the MOTHER who according to me is a leader who shall inspire till eternity. To many Mother Teresa has been an icon of love and care. To others she may have been someone who worked for the unprivileged. However in this small article I shall be presenting my views on Mother Teresa as a Leader and also mentioning some of the essential ingredients of being a leader.
Mother Teresa was as exceptional leader who exhibited charisma and had the ability to inspire the members of her order to transcend their own self-interests to achieve the vision. She is an ultimate example of transformational leadership a model for helping others aspire to and attain high levels of performance for themselves and the organization. Transformational leadership is a type of leadership style that leads to positive changes in those who follow. Transformational leaders are generally energetic, enthusiastic and passionate. Not only are these leaders concerned and involved in the process; they are also focused on helping every member of the group succeed as well. Mother Teresa motivated her followers to achieve the vision and mission of her association which is helping people who need helps. She could influence people to transcend their personal interests for the sake of the group. Mother Teresa was also a charismatic leader. She inspired people in the world to help the ones who need helps without seeing their status or races. She was highly esteemed and confident, displayed exemplary qualities, had a strong sense of purpose, articulated the goals and ideas for which her followers were psychologically prepared, secured her followers’ unquestioning cognitive and emotional commitment, and had extraordinary moral inspiration, attraction, and influence over her followers. Furthermore, she was able to move people to act with only a simple few words.
Qualities in Mother Teresa that made her a leader for always
The foremost ability of a leader therefore is to create a vision…..seeing with an eye a future that till now does not exists. These leaders are also able to help followers experience the same passion and motivation to fulfill these goals. She has been a role model and her followers –Sisters of the mission take great pride in the white and blue saree. The transformational leader serves as a role model for followers. Because followers trust and respect the leader, they emulate this individual and internalize his or her ideals.
