HUL was chosen as ET’s Company of the year is hardly surprising when Sanjiv Mehta, the company’ s CEO puts it humbly. “I dedicate this award to the billion plus Indian consumers who have reposed their trust and faith in Hindustan Unilever.” HUL’s consumer focus has clearly paid dividends.
To the Jury…on behalf of lakhs of people who are part of the Hindustan Unilever Eco system a big thank you! It is a big honor and I accept this award on their behalf with humility. Yet, in an environment where the country’s consumer products sector expanded at the slowest pace in a decade, the Indian unit of the Anglo-Dutch giant grew 10 per cent in 2014-15, at almost double the rate of the overall market.
“The traditional approach of multi-nationals is to integrate globally and adapt locally. Hindustan Unilever is different …Over the last 80+ years we have integrated with the fabric of India to co-create value. We did it by engaging deeply with consumers & customer, fostering development of local talent pool and building leaders, partnering & developing local supplier, participating in shaping the institutional environmentand iInvesting in development of social value.
