With more companies embracing flexible work options due to the coronavirus pandemic, there’s one remote work model with particular appeal for progressive employers. It’s a novel management model known as a “Results-Only Work Environment” or ROWE.
Even before the COVID-19 outbreak, a new business era demanded new and innovative approaches to work. That’s why remote work, generally speaking, was already coming of age in an interconnected world with evaporating time zones to optimize operational efficiency. The pre-2020 mobile, digital and virtual workforce transformation was already manifesting in profound ways with unprecedented consequences for the 21st-century global economy.
However, the continuing pandemic has put remote work front and center as a business necessity for countless millions of employers and employees alike, rather than a convenient flexible work option to consider and adopt as appropriate.
I’ve worked remotely in the public and private sectors for the past decade. Thus I can tell you that while there’s no “one size fits all” solution regarding telework, some models have proven more effective than others.
