Eight things that defined 2020 and the World, …….and made History

8. Racism is Real: On May 25, a police officer in Minneapolis squeezed the neck of George Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man, for eight minutes and 15 seconds, killing him instantly, for allegedly passing a counterfeit dollar bill. Phone video recordings of the brutal killing turned viral on the social media soon triggering protests across the United States.

What followed was a Black Lives Matter campaign around the world in the middle of a never-before-seen pandemic sweeping the world. It sparked global debates where some global leaders conceded that ‘Racism is Real.’

7. Climate is Changing Faster than Ever: Devastating wildfires; Catastrophic storms, cyclones and tornadoes; Long and destructive droughts have all turned more pronounced in 2020. The year started with the Australian bushfire, the worst wildlife disaster in modern history, killing or replacing nearly three billion animals in a couple of weeks when six percent of the country was in flames. A repeat of it was seen in the western United States later in the year. Destructive tropical storms unleashed across America and Southeast Asia, even as the southwestern United States was under the worst drought in over 1,000 years, and the long drought spell continued in the African Sahara desert.
