How to stop seeing people who disagree with us as idiots | Keith Payne | TEDxUniversityofNevada

Source | YouTube | TEDx Talks

Success requires both hard work and good luck but when people succeed, they quickly forget about the luck. Payne’s research suggests that this inflated sense of confidence leads wealthier people hold more rigid political opinions and to dismiss those who disagree. Having better political conversations requires humility, which comes from remembering the lucky breaks and helping hands that led to success in the first place. Keith Payne, PhD, is a Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of North Carolina, where studies the behavioral effects of social inequalities. He is author of The Broken Ladder: How Inequality Affects the Way We Think, Live, and Die
