How to use an ice-breaker

What does this picture remind you of? Who does it remind you of? What do you think is happening here? Is he opening the mouth or closing it?

If your mouth was zipped like this how might you feel? Have you ever felt this way before? When? What happened? Who made you feel this way?

Do you think this could be a nice icebreaker for an online session or a workshop?

The purpose of an ice breaker is to get some alignment and focus. Get everybody on the same page.

I have tried this picture as an icebreaker and it does wonders. Responses can be on the chat box and I can read that out. It is amazing to see various kinds of responses – almost every single response is different from the other.

I have tried another interesting exercise. It helps people calm down, relax and focus. This is the instruction I give.

“Imagine you are sitting on the bank of a river. It is about 7:00 in the morning. You can feel the cool breeze on your face. You can hear the sound of water flowing, a few birds chirping. You see a huge tree in front of you. As you watch the tree, a leaf detaches itself and falls on the river stream. And the leaf starts moving with the stream.
