IITs see a mixed bag of job offers this season

Placement representatives told ET that students at IIT Bombay and Guwahati bagged more job offers this year compared with 2021. IIT-Delhi, Roorkee and BHU (Varanasi), however, have had to negotiate declines anywhere between 10% and 20% compared with last year.

The first phase of placements this season at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) reflects global growth uncertainties and an increasing likelihood of recessions in the West, with some colleges bucking the trend to garner more job offers even as several others settled for fewer choices.

Placement representatives told ET that students at IIT Bombay and Guwahati bagged more job offers this year compared with 2021. IIT-Delhi, Roorkee and BHU (Varanasi), however, have had to negotiate declines anywhere between 10% and 20% compared with last year.

IITs established earlier recently wrapped up the first phase of placements that started on December 1. Traditionally, big-ticket and international offers come in the first leg of the placement season.
