“There’s a law of conservation of pain. Everybody goes through the same amount of pain. It’s just a function of time”, one of my board members told me when I was feeling down and out.
It’s like how every graduating batch in the school feels that they had the toughest exams to face, or how every parent thinks that theirs was a tougher childhood. It’s human to feel that our problems are the biggest in the world.
I am tempted to think that it’s the same syndrome when we discuss the VUCA world (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity). I often get asked about the need of a separate Competency Assessment for identifying managers in this VUCA world.
