BENGALURU: LinkedIn is shortly extending its `Made in India’ product, LinkedIn Lite, to more than 60 countries. LinkedIn India head Kothari told ETtech that they recently tested the product in some of its other markets and witnessed significant growth in its user engagement.
On Thursday , LinkedIn is announcing the rollout of a native LinkedIn Lite app to Android users in India. “We have now been able to take all the LinkedIn experience and package it into an app that is less than 1MB,“ Kothari said. This app will soon be extended to more than 60 countries.
LinkedIn Lite, which is a pareddown mobile site designed to work on lower-end handsets and poor Internet connections, has been one of the company’s major growth driver in tier-2 and tier-3 towns that had a lot of pent up demand but was facing weak accessibility, Kothari said. “We are seeing a lot of growth co ming from tier-2 and tier-3 towns due to this initia tive. In the past six months, uni que visitors to our mobile site has doubled whi le the engage ment on our site has gone up threefold,“ he added.
LinkedIn Lite was launched during LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner’s visit to Bengaluru in September last year and is entirely developed by the company’s Bengaluru R&D unit. At the time, Weiner had told, in an exclusive interaction with ETtech, that products like LinkedIn Lite will also “make sense in other markets with restrictions in storage and bandwidth.“
