New Delhi: After Google, Microsoft yet another major global tech company will now be headed by an executive of Indian-origin. IIT Bombay alumnus Parag Agarwal, who is also the chief technology officer at micro-blogging platform Twitter, will take over as CEO of the social media platform immediately following the departure of its co-founder CEO Jack Dorsey, who was at the helm of the company for 16 years. 

“Parag has been behind every critical decision that helped turn this company around. He’s curious, probing, rational, creative, demanding, self-aware, and humble. He leads with heart and soul, and is someone I learn from daily. My trust in him as our CEO is bone deep,” Dorsey tweeted.

Shares of Twitter went up by as much as 10% with the news in opening trade. Parag’s appointment as Twitter CEO also got a big thumbs up from Elon Musk, entrepreneur and the world’s richest person. “USA benefits greatly from Indian talent!” tweeted the Tesla boss in reply to a tweet on Indian-origin persons leading some of the world’s top tech companies such as Google, Microsoft, Adobe and IBM. Now Parag is the latest executive of Indian-origin to head the San Francisco-headquartered tech company. Agarwal will also be appointed to Twitter Board.
