Mind the Gap!

Most of the time you are not in control of what you say and do because you are driving around in the thick fog of your emotions.  They control your behaviour whether you are aware of it or not, whether you like it or not. It is also now widely understood that emotions can seriously cloud our judgment. But there is something you can do about it – Mind the Gap.

What did you notice when you read the first statement above? Did you think “That’s rubbish – I can remain in control” or “That applies to others I know – but not me!” or perhaps you agree with it and say “Sure, that makes perfect sense – so what?” Well however you responded it was triggered by an emotion, based on your perceptions, values and conditioning.

Blaming Others

The other day my wife Pam bought a bunch of freshly-picked baby carrots, the small slender ones with the green tops, from our local grocer who is supplied by Suffolk farmers. When it came to preparing them I noticed that I was feeling increasing levels of anger and frustration with the task. It was taking me ages to carefully scrub all the earth off them with a nail brush and I found myself complaining that these stupid little carrots were not worth all the trouble and effort. Pam was surprised that I was getting into such a strop about it and asked what on earth was going on, because it was only a minor task of washing some carrots.
