Bengaluru: Wipro chairman Rishad Premji told shareholders that the software major has not laid off a single employee due to the pandemic and has no plans to lay off anyone because of the repercussions of Covid19, stating that the company would use other levers to drive profitability.
This was Rishad’s first annual general meeting as chairman. He was flanked by his father Azim Premji who retired as chairman last year and is now a non-executive director and founder chairman on the board, The rest of the board members joined in virtually from different parts of the world.
In response to a question by a shareholder on layoffs, Rishad Premji said, “We have not laid off a single employee as part of the pandemic, we have no plans to lay off anyone. We are driving cost reductions through other means.”
