Like so many people this time of year, I’ve got love on my mind. Because of Valentine’s Day, of course, but also because we’ll soon be launching the 6th edition of our book, Love ‘Em or Lose ‘Em – which I refer to as LELE.
If you’ve read it, you know it’s an alphabetized list of suggestions on how managers can engage and retain employees. But over the years, its readers have observed that its wisdom applies to far more than just employee retention. In fact, recently a friend laughingly told me, “I’ve used LELE with my neighbors, my husband, and even my kids – at least, the ones I want to keep!”
With that and Valentine’s Day in mind, I decided to look at how LELE might be applied to engaging and retaining the ones I want to keep – like my daughter, my husband, and my friends. I began by re-writing the introduction to Chapter One of “Love ‘Em or Lose ‘Em” (all the chapters start with a “ponderable”) Here’s what I came up with.
