Hyderabad: After IIM Lucknow, the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani, which also has a campus in Hyderabad, has now approached its alumni asking to help with placements amid global recession.

In a letter that was circulated on social media, Arya Kumar, dean, alumni relations, wrote how the global uncertainty has a cascading effect on hiring at all levels, including the campus level and asked the alumni to “help them tide through the current crisis” as the “hiring slowdown has only deepened” lately.

“You are well aware of the current industry downturn and its effect on businesses and prospective hiring. The global economy has not experienced this kind of slump since decades,” he said and added that the technology sector is radically impacted, with around four lakh employees being laid off globally since January 2022.
