HYDERABAD: Work from home may have helped many tide over the pandemic restrictions, but it has left behind stress among employees working away from office.

A city-based study by researchers from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management covering IT employees revealed that work from home had a negative impact on employees due to “workplace isolation, communication deficits, absence of interaction with peers, teamwork, hand-holding of peers in routine work, and family conflicts”. It also revealed that sometimes employees working from home experience more stress due to workplace isolation.

The result of the study was published in the recent issue of the scientific journal, Frontiers in Psychology. The research team comprising KDV Prasad, Rajesh Vaidya and Ridhi Rani collected feedback from IT employees working from home on issues like occupational stress, job satisfaction, motivation, and performance. “(Our) results indicated self-proficiency, teamwork, and occupational stress are statistically significant and influence the outcome variables,” the study said.

The study also revealed that remote working is one of the major factors causing anxiety and employee stress.
