While the job market in India’s metro cities is recording strong growth amid removal of Covid-induced restrictions and rise in economic activity, smaller towns and rural areas lag woefully behind in jobs growth, a recent survey shows.

Jobs conversion ratio – which indicates the translation of hiring intent to actual hiring – has been falling by a significant measure in tier 2 and rural jobs across blue and white-collar profiles, according to an exclusive survey by Ciel HR Services for ET.

Conversion rate for blue collar jobs in these markets is currently hovering around 27%, down from a high of 72% during July-September 2020, it said. In the case of white-collar jobs, the conversion ratio has dipped to 44% from 48% earlier. The survey looked at data from over 600 companies across various industries in 39 locations.
