By | Karen Anthony

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) holds the SEBI Grade A to select candidates for the post of Asst. Managers. If you see yourself in a leadership position, you must not miss this chance. You can appear for this exam after your graduation or even PG. However, the first step is to know the exam pattern. To help you with this, here is a comprehensive outline of everything you need to know with regards to the type of question paper and total marks.

What Is The Examination Process?

There are three parts to the SEBI Grade A exam. The first part is an online exam in which candidates have to solve multiple-choice questions. Also, they have to ensure that they score above the cut-off marks. Once they have qualified for the first part of the exam, they will progress to the second part. Now, the second part of the exam has two papers, one of which is written. They call the candidates who qualify for this phase of the exam for an interview.

Also, the SEBI website features a list of such candidates for both transparency and ease of access. The interview is the final round. If you clarify this round, you would be selected.

What Is The Exam Pattern And Marking Scheme?

Before you start your preparation, it is very important to know the exam pattern and syllabus. In part 1, you would be asked to answer two objective papers. Both the papers consist of 100 marks each. However, you have to face a  penalty for wrongly marked answers. Thus, they would reduce 0.25% of the marks. They would ask questions from a variety of topics including general knowledge and reasoning skills. Further, they would allocate you an hour to complete paper 1 and a half an hour to complete paper 2.

In the second part of the exam, you would have two papers again. The first paper would consist of 100 marks and questions from various topics. On the other hand, the second paper would have questions from the optional of your choice. This paper would also deduct marks for wrong responses. However, the deduction would not apply if you have chosen IT as your stream. Also, you can obtain a maximum of 100 marks on the second paper.

What Is The Number Of Questions?

Before 2020, the number of questions in part one of the exam used to be 200. However, now part one has been divided into two papers. The first paper consists of 80 questions while the second paper consists of 50 questions.

In part 2, the first paper has 3 questions for 100 marks. On the other hand, the second paper has 50 questions for the general stream. However, the number of questions asked for each topic varies. For example, in 2021, the number of questions from management was around 10 while the figure was 5 for economics.

Tips around Exam Pattern

You must first understand the SEBI Grade A exam pattern. However, understanding is not enough. It will not help you qualify for the exam if you do not supplement it with other steps. You must also get trained with the exam pattern. For this, you must go through various sample papers. The best source for sample papers is the previous years’ question papers.

Also, you should try to solve these questions in exam-like conditions. It means that you should not spend extra time on difficult questions, even if it is tempting. This way, you will train your brain to get used to the exam pattern.

Conclusion

Understanding the exam pattern and getting familiar with it is vital. It forms the basis for your preparation. Thus, you must invest some time in this process and start preparing with the expert guidance available at BYJU’s Exam Prep. You should then form your own strategy to best utilize your time.
