Around 2.3 million workers across nine sectors and 66 other establishments have lost jobs during the first wave of the pandemic, minister of state for labour Rameswar Teli said.
According to minister Teli’s response in Rajya Sabha on Thursday, 30.7 million workers were registered in the establishments surveyed before March 25, 2020 just before the nationwide lockdown during the first wave. This was reduced to 28.4 million as on July 1, 2020.
During the period, the number of male workers reduced from 21.7 million to 20.1 million while the female workers dropped from 9 million to 8.3 million.
