In just a few months, COVID-19 has changed how and where we work, forcing different and flexible ways of working. Even before the pandemic struck, the future of work seemed undefined because of the shifting demographics and globalization, an endless demand for new skills, and the growing need to leverage new-age digital-led opportunities.
While the pandemic has made us realise that we are living in unprecedented times, it has also accelerated changes that were already under way and triggered an essential re-think not just of where we work, but how.
The Future of Work comprises three equally important dimensions – ‘work’ (what can be automated), ‘workforce’ (who can do the work), and ‘workplace’ (where is the work being done). In the pre-COVID era, organizations primarily focused on ‘work’ with an inadequate focus on the other two dimensions. I see the following shifts taking place:
