This Financial Planner Is Proof of What Mentorship Can Do for Your Career Success

Marissa P. has always loved math and making personal connections—and she’s been able to merge these two passions in her career as a financial planner. Today, she’s a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and a financial planning analyst at First Republic Private Wealth Management, an affiliate of First Republic Bank.

“When I started this journey into financial planning, I felt like I found the career path that I was meant to be part of long term,” she says. “I’m inspired regularly when clients find peace in their overall financial picture from the work that is put into the planning process.”

Here, Marissa shares how First Republic has supported her career growth through internal training programs, what skills have helped her succeed, and why mentorship is so important.

Tell us about your career journey, and what inspired you to work in the financial industry.

While I was in college, I worked at Bank of America because I always had an interest in finance and banking felt like a natural place to start. This provided me with a foundation in customer service and finance. While completing my finance courses for my degree, I had a genuine interest in learning more about investment management and the stock market. With that in mind, I applied for a client service associate position at UBS Financial Service, where I began working with my current team.

What led you to your job at First Republic, and how did you know the company would be a good fit?

A few years after joining UBS, my team moved to First Republic Private Wealth Management, an affiliate of First Republic Bank, and I’m thankful that we landed at such a wonderful company. I was immediately impressed with the welcoming spirit that came from every direction.
