Why I love being a recruiter

As a Head of Recruitment,I am frequently asked, “What is the most exciting and impactful job in the corporate world?” While others may answer differently, to me the most exciting and impactful job is clearly recruiting. According to Confucius, “Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.”I Love being a recruiter. I think it’s one of the coolest jobs in the world and I really can’t see myself doing anything else. And you do have to love being a recruiter, otherwise you wouldn’t last very long! Interestingly, I am the only one from my MBA batch who continues to be in recruitment, almost 60% of my batch mates started their career in recruitment.

It is tough being a recruiter. Let’s face it, recruitment is not as glamorous as it looks (despite what people think we’re not having long lunches every day). With all the frustration, knock-backs, disappointments, and the constant pressure to perform, it can be pretty tough. Recruitment has often been described as an emotional roller coaster. One minute you’re jumping for joy, the next minute you feel like you’ve been punched in the stomach. So resilience and self-motivation are very important qualities to have in this profession.So if you’re a college student ready to select a career or someone who is considering shifting into a new career field, I have compiled a list of the many reasons why you should consider becoming a recruiter.I will use the term “We” to describe the tribe of all the recruiters who are passionate doing their jobs

  1. We love to compete -Recruiters are competitors and if you are competitive you will realize that filling each job is a head-to-head competition that can be energizing. We derive thrill from getting candidates from the firms we compete and converting a candidate having multiple Offers.Every day you are competing against recruiters who represent powerhouse firms like Amazon, Google, Flipkart , Apple and the list is long. Most recruiters also find that discovering hidden talent is also exhilarating, as is successfully convincing top prospects who have multiple choices to pick your firm’s job.
  2. We are number driven– Unlike many other HR fields Recruitment produces most tangible outcomes. There are numbers,metrics direct impact on business , cost of hire and lot of predictive Analytics, Numbers and numbers everywhere.This does not suit everybody I know, but in recruitment there is nowhere to hide, and we like that. Many researches has shown that recruiting ranks No. 1, with the greatest bottom-line business impact on revenue and profit of any HR function. it is obvious to almost everyone that you are making a difference when you successfully recruit top talent into the organization. New projects will get executed faster and products will be marketed on time. In some cases, a single new hire who you bring in could create a major innovation or a new product worth millions.
