“Seven minutes into the meeting, and I zoned out,” said Vamika, Product Manager with a mid-size IT firm. On an average, Vamika attended 16.2 hours of meetings per week and 3 hours of team sync meetings. Although meetings play a vital role in feed-forward or information sharing, decision-making and problem-solving, training and skill development, innovation, and feedback; roughly one-third to 71 percent of all meetings are considered unproductive. Despite this, meetings are organized, and hours are spent. After the two-hour-long 10:15 pm meeting, Vamika discussed with her colleague Shubman the important question at the heart of the meeting debate — Why managers love meetings?Why managers love meetings?

1. Alpha leader
The personality of a manager can be a driving factor behind their behaviour and actions. Alpha leaders “are aggressive, results-driven achievers who insist on top performance from themselves and others.” They tend to be overachievers and demand their teams to follow their leads. Overachievers “command and coerce rather than coach and collaborate, thus stifling subordinates.
