Top New Year’s Resolutions for HR Success

By | Matt Gregory

The new year is a time for new beginnings, meaning it’s the perfect time to reassess your HR practices. The new year comes in many forms, as there are various different calendars across the globe. While the Gregorian Calendar deems 1 January the beginning of the new year, the Islamic Calendar has Muharram 2023, and the Chinese Calendar will be different once again. Therefore, there are plenty of times in which you can make your New Year’s resolutions to bolster your HR success. Detailed below are just some of the resolutions you might consider making to boost your HR success.

Revise Your Company Values

When it comes to setting the tone for a business, company values are of the utmost importance. This is because it assists candidates in understanding what the company believes in and how they’ll be treated within the organization. Since these values tend to be established during the time in which the company is founded, they can seem outdated if they’re not updated. It’s for this reason that you might take each new year as an opportunity to review and revise the company values. This way, you can ensure that your values are in keeping with modern society.

Launch a Diversity Initiative

For most businesses, diversity and inclusion initiatives are a top priority. Diversity and inclusion refer to the employment of a diverse team of people that reflects the association in which it operates. Even if you feel as though you have diversity and inclusion initiatives in place, you might want to assess them and ensure they’re in the best possible place. If you don’t currently have these initiatives in place, the new year is the perfect time to start implementing them. All in all, any way that allows a company to embrace a multitude of cultures is a positive development.

Review Your Hiring Process

Hiring is one of the most essential HR processes; however, it can often fade into the background when it comes to company reviews. Despite this, hiring affects a company’s bottom line massively, meaning a goal to audit the hiring process throughout the year. This works to help you ensure that the experience is as effective and positive as possible for applicants, existing team members, and hiring managers alike.

What’s more, the recruitment process can be simplified even further by putting HR tech in place. This way, it becomes much easier to guarantee that your process complies with local, state, and federal laws.

Schedule Regular One-to-One Meetings with Direct Reports

If you’re looking to better understand what would make your employees happier in the workplace, the best course of action is to ask them. Therefore, you might look at setting up regular meetings in which your employees can let you know what they like, what they don’t like, and what they’d be keen to see in the future. It can be tempting to cancel these meetings during busy periods; however, it’s important to treat these meetings as non-negotiable. After all, employee input is incredibly important, and it shouldn’t be given less priority.

Start Promoting Work-Life Balance

Last but not least, you could take the new year as an opportunity to promote a better work-life balance. You may find that employees feel pressure to deliver the work that needs to be done. Therefore, you can help to alleviate this pressure by helping them to find a healthy work-life balance. This might include work-from-home initiatives, flexitime, and reduced work hours for the same pay. If your employees aren’t put under too much stress, they’ll be able to deliver better results.
